Crocheting Stripes

I Love Stripes! Well, anything with lots of color really. Though I do have a hard time putting colors together. Never sure if they will look good, and even while crocheting a project, I'm doubting my choice until it's all done. So far I have been lucky, and everything has looked fine. lol

Some designers and other crocheters have suggested using a color wheel. I have one, but it just confuses me. Seems that I need to have the yarn in front of me and rearrange the skeins to see what works.

Usually when I'm designing something with stripes, I'm trying to use up some yarn left over from other projects. You can never have too many bags right? I used to buy Bernat Premium a lot, but it's changed over the past few years. Sadly. When I designed this bag pattern though, the Bernat was still my favorite yarn.

The year I designed this bag was the year I made a whole Collection of striped patterns. They were so much fun! I used a lot of yarn for those lol. Had even more left over yarn at the end of the year.

Sometimes I buy yarn with no plan on what it will be when it "grows up". It can take a while to come up with a pattern, a lot of looking at the yarn and letting my imagination run.

This scarf pattern was created with some hand dyed yarn I purchased at a Fiber Fest in Texas. After a lot of thought I decided on an infinity scarf, was pretty sure I had enough yarn for that. And I did. I really loved the green color.

Last winter I purchased some Herrschners Worsted Bohemian Romance yarn. The colors spoke to me when I saw them online. They were pretty, but not quite as bright as I thought they would be. The yarn was soft, but so much static! Almost made it hard to crochet with. The yarn sat in a cubbie at home for quite a while before I figured out what I might do with it. I created a beanie pattern with some of it, then decided on a matching scarf and cowl set. It was scary trying to put the colors in an order I thought would look nice. Once they were one I was very pleased with how they turned out.

After deciding that I wasn't going to purchase any Bernat Premium anymore, I needed to figure out what to do with the yarn I had. A lot of the yarn ended up being beanie patterns, or just beanies to donate. There were some colors I had more of and those I tried to make into blankets if I could.

This is one of my favorite blankets. When I put the colors together on the floor I wasn't so sure about how they would look together, but was super happy when the blanket was done. I had hoped the texture and colors would look almost "manly" as it was going to be a donation blanket for a Veteran that Christmas.
