FREE Beanie Pattern

If you use this FREE pattern, the challenge is to create at least 1 beanie that you donate to the charity of your choice.

Willow Beanie



MATERIALS

  • Willow Yarns Burrow (75% Acrylic, 25% Wool, 197 yards / 180 meters, 3.5 ounces / 100 grams) 1 skein per hat.

  • Other Yarn Options: Any #4 worsted weight yarn.

HOOKS & SUPPLIES

  • Hook US I9 / 5.5 mm

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

  • Measuring Tape

  • Stitch Marker (Optional)

GAUGE

  • At the end of Round 6.

SIZES

  • Child: 16” x 7.25”

  • Teen: 18” x 7.75”

  • Women: 20” x 9”

  • Men: 22” x 9.25”

PATTERN KEY (US Terms)

  • bpdc = back post double crochet

  • dc = double crochet

  • fpdc = front post double crochet

  • RS = right side

  • sc = single crochet

  • slst = slip stitch

  • sp(s) = space(s)

  • st(s) = stitch(es)

  • WS = wrong side


SPECIAL STITCHES & TECHNIQUES

  • fpdc: YO, insert hook from front to back to front around post of indicated stitch, YO and pull up loop, [YO, draw through 2 loops on hook] 2 times.

  • bpdc: YO, insert hook from back to front to back around post of indicated stitch, YO and pull up loop, [YO, draw through 2 loops on hook] 2 times.


EXPERIENCE LEVEL

  • Easy


NOTES

  • * * - Repeat instructions between the asterisks.

  • You will be working in the round, join with a slip stitch at the end of each round.

  • The chain 1 & chain 2 at the beginning of the rounds do not count as stitches.

  • The single crochet rounds are done on the Wrong Side.

  • If you feel that the beanie is too short, just add a few rows of repeats before the band, until about 1” - 1.5” before the desired length.

 

INSTRUCTIONS ALL Hats


Round 1 (RS): make a M/C, ch 2, 9 / 10 / 11 / 12 dc in the M/C. JOIN (9 / 10 / 11 / 12 sts)


Round 2: ch 1, (sc, dc) in the first st and each st around. JOIN (18 / 20 / 22 / 24 sts)


Round 3: ch 2, dc in the first st, 2 dc in the next st, * dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st * around. JOIN (27 / 30 / 33 / 36 sts)

Round 4: ch 1, sc in the first st, dc in the next st, (sc, dc) in the next st, * sc in the next st, dc in the next st, (sc, dc) in the next st * around. JOIN (36 / 40 / 44 / 48 sts)


Round 5: ch 2, dc in the first 3 sts, 2 dc in the next st, * dc in the next 3 sts, 2 dc in the next st * around. JOIN & TURN (45 / 50 / 55 / 60 sts)


Round 6 (WS): ch 1, skip the joining st, sc in the first 4 sts, * 2 sc in the next st, sc in the next 4 sts * around, sc in the last st. JOIN & TURN


NOTE:

The circle should now measure 6.25 / 6.5 / 6.75 / 7 inches across.

Each round will now have 53 / 59 / 65 / 71 sts


Round 7 (RS): ch 1, skip the joining st, sc in the first st, * dc in the next st, sc in the next st * around. JOIN to the first sc.


Round 8 (RS): ch 2, dc in the first st and each st around. JOIN & TURN


Round 9 (WS): ch 1, skip the joining st, sc in the first st and each st around. JOIN to the first sc & TURN


INDIVIDUAL SIZES BELOW

 

CHILD


Rounds 10 - 15: Repeat Rounds 7 - 9.


Round 16: ch 2, skip the joining st, dc in the first st and each st around. JOIN to the first dc. (53 sts)


Round 17 & 18: ch 2, fpdc around the first st, * bpdc around the next st, fpdc around the next st * around. JOIN


Fasten off and weave ends.

 

TEEN


Rounds 10 - 15: Repeat Rounds 7 - 9.


Rounds 16 & 17: Repeat Rounds 7 & 8. JOIN. DO NOT TURN.


Round 18: ch 2, dc in the first st and each st around. JOIN (59 sts)


Round 19 & 20: ch 2, fpdc around the first st, * bpdc around the next st, fpdc around the next st * around. JOIN


Fasten off and weave ends.

 

WOMEN


Rounds 10 - 18: Repeat Rounds 7 - 9.


Round 19: ch 2, skip the joining st, dc in the first st and each st around. JOIN to the first dc. (65 sts)


Round 20 & 21: ch 2, fpdc around the first st, * bpdc around the next st, fpdc around the next st * around. JOIN


Fasten off and weave ends.

 

MEN


Rounds 10 - 18: Repeat Rounds 7 - 9.


Round 19: ch 2, skip the joining st, dc in the first st and each st around. JOIN to the first dc. (71 sts)


Round 20 - 22: ch 2, fpdc around the first st, * bpdc around the next st, fpdc around the next st * around. JOIN


Fasten off and weave ends.
