Whirligig Wrap Crochet Pattern

It's October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so I am offering this pattern for FREE.

Please pledge to create one shawl/wrap to donate to a cancer centre, or someone you know who might need a warm hug.

Whirligig Wrap


MATERIALS

  • Cascade Yarns Whirligig (60% Superwash Merino Wool/20% Nylon/20% Acrylic, 546 yards / 500 meters, 7.05 ounces / 200 grams) 2 skeins

  • Other Yarn Options: Any dk weight yarn.


HOOKS & SUPPLIES

  • Hook US G6 / 4 mm

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

  • Measuring Tape

  • Stitch Marker (Optional)


GAUGE

  • 17 stitches = 4”, 9 pattern rows = 4”


SIZES

  • One Size: 76” x 11.5”


PATTERN KEY (US Terms)

  • altch3 = alternate chain 3

  • ch = chain

  • dc = double crochet

  • M/C = magic circle

  • RS = right side

  • sc = single crochet

  • slst = slip stitch

  • st = stitch

  • sts = stitches

  • WS = wrong side


SPECIAL STITCHES & TECHNIQUES

  • Cluster: 3 dc in the same st or ch sp.

  • V-ST: (dc, ch 3, dc) in the same st.

NOTES

  • * * - Repeat instructions between the asterisks as many times as instructed.

  • Turn at the end of each row.

  • Altch2 is the first st in the row.

  • Ch sps do not count as sts.

INSTRUCTIONS


Row 1: fsc 57 (or any multiple of 6 + 3)

Optional Row 1: ch 58 (or any multiple of 6 + 4), sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across. (57 sts)


Row 2: ch 1, sc in the first st and each st across.


Row 3: altch2, dc in the next st, skip 2 sts, V-ST in the next st, skip 2 sts, * Cluster in the next st, skip 2 sts, V-ST in the next st, skip 2 sts * across, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 4: altch2, dc in the next st, skip 1 st, Cluster in the next ch sp, * skip 2 sts, V-ST in the next st, skip 2 sts, Cluster in the next ch sp * across, skip 1 st, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 5: altch2, dc in the next st, skip 1 st, V-ST in the next st, * skip 2 sts, Cluster in the next ch sp, skip 2 sts, V-ST in the next st * across, skip 1 st, dc in the last 2 sts.


Repeat Rows 4 & 5 until desired length.


LAST 2 ROWS


Second Last Row: ch 1, sc in the first 3 sts, sc in the next ch sp, * sc in the next 5 sts, sc in the next ch sp * across, sc in the last 3 sts. (57 sts)


Last Row: ch 1, sc in the first st and each st across. (57 sts)


Fasten off and weave in the ends.
