MM Alpaca Bottom Up Shawl

MATERIALS

  • Mary Maxim Natural Alpaca (77% Acrylic, 20% Alpaca, 3% Viscose, 262 yards / 240 meters, 3.5 ounces / 100 grams) Color A (Denim) 1 skein, Color B (Raw Cotton) 1 skein, Color C (Sand Dune) 2 skeins

  • Other Yarn Options: Any dk weight yarn.


HOOKS & SUPPLIES

  • Hook US 7 / 4.5 mm

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

  • Measuring Tape

  • Stitch Marker (Optional)

GAUGE

  • 15 dc stitches = 4”, first 10 rows = 4”


FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

  • 64” wide x 30” long


PATTERN KEY (US Terms)

  • altch3 = alternate chain 3

  • ch = chain

  • dc = double crochet

  • sc = single crochet

  • slst = slip stitch

  • sp(s) = space(s)

  • st(s) = stitch(es)


 

SPECIAL STITCHES & TECHNIQUES

Without chaining, work a single crochet into the first stitch. Insert the hook into the left-most leg of the stitch you just made (or the right-most leg for left-handed crocheters), YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops. You’ve just put another single crochet into the left-most leg of the previous stitch. Put one more single crochet into the left-most (right-most) leg of the single crochet, for a total of 3 single crochets, before continuing

  • - Repeat instructions between the asterisks.

  • Turn at the end of each row.

  • Ch spaces do not count as stitches.

  • The chain 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.

  • The altch3 at the beginning of the row is the first double crochet.


 

INSTRUCTIONS


Row 1: ch 3 (does not count as a st), 3 dc in the first ch. (3 sts)


Row 2: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc in the next st, 3 dc in the last st. (7 sts)


Row 3: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc next 5 sts, 3 dc in the last st. (11 sts)


Row 4: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc next 9 sts, 3 dc in the last st. (15 sts)


Row 5: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc next 13 sts, 3 dc in the last st. (19 sts)


Row 6: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc in the next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in the next 2 sts across, 3 dc in the last st. (18 sts)


Row 7: ch 1, 2 sc in each of the first 2 sts, sc in the next st, ch 3, skip 2 sts, sc in the next ch sp, ch 3, skip 2 sts across, sc in the next st, 2 sc in each of the last 2 sts. (15 sts)


Row 8: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in the next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, 2 dc in the next ch sp, ch 1, skip 1 st across until 4 sts remain, dc in the next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, 3 dc in the last st. (22 sts)


Row 9: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc in each st and ch sp across, 3 dc in the last st. (35 sts)


Rows 10 - 12: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc in each st across, 3 dc in the last st. (Row 12: 47 sts)


Row 13: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc in the next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in the next 2 sts across, 3 dc in the last st. (36 sts)


Row 14: ch 1, 2 sc in each of the first 2 sts, sc in the next st, ch 3, skip 2 sts, sc in the next ch sp, ch 3, skip 2 sts across, sc in the next st, 2 sc in each of the last 2 sts. (25 sts)


Row 15: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in the next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, 2 dc in the next ch sp, ch 1, skip 1 st across until 4 sts remain, dc in the next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, 3 dc in the last st. (40 sts)


Row 16: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc in each st and ch sp across, 3 dc in the last st. (62 sts)


Rows 17 - 21: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc in each st across, 3 dc in the last st. (82 sts)


Rows 22 - 24: Repeat Rows 13 - 15. (64 sts at the end of Round 24)


Row 25: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc in each st and ch sp across, 3 dc in the last st.


Rows 26 & 27: (altch3, 2 dc) in the first st, dc in each st across, 3 dc in the last st. 


Repeat Rows 13 - 27 until desired length/width ending on any dc row.


NOTE: Change colors on any row.


Last row: ch 1, sc in each st across.


Fasten off, weave in ends.
