MM Alpaca Shawl Yarn & Pattern

Mary Maxim Natural Alpaca (77% Acrylic, 20% Alpaca, 3% Viscose, 262 yards / 240 meters, 3.5 ounces / 100 grams)

Why did I buy this yarn? The colors :) I really like tweed looking yarn. It's harder to see stitch definition on the crochet project, but the yarn is pretty.

The colors are: Raw Cotton, Sand Dune, Thistle, Cool Stream & Denim.

The yarn is pretty soft, I didn't mind it at all. It does split more than I would like. You don't want to unravel it more than once. Because it's fuzzy it starts to stick together when trying to unravel. One of the pink skeins had 3 knots in it, the rest were fine.

The yarn is labelled as a #4 worsted weight and the suggested hook size is a 5mm. I would say it's a light worsted weight, leaning towards dk weight. I used a 4.5 mm hook for the 2 shawls I made.

Quite a while ago I posted a photo of the yarn and had someone ask if it was itchy. Her hands were quite sensitive to wool. My hands are as well, I had no issues with this yarn. A few years ago I crocheted with 100% Alpaca yarn. It was great yarn to work with, not itchy at all.

Mary Maxim recently had some of the colors on sale, so I ordered more :)

Here is the first of 2 shawl patterns I created with this yarn.

You can purchase the PDF on Ravelry for $2.50:
