Have you tried hand dyed yarn? I have a few times. Learned that it's thinner than the "big box" acrylic yarns. Example: hand dyed worsted weight yarn is closer to what we would call aran weight leaning towards dk weight.
There are so many different small businesses creating beautiful hand dyed yarn. I got in contact with Hot Magenta Yarn Company on Etsy. What drew me to her shop was the gradient colors. There was a shawl pattern in my mind that really needed gradient yarn lol.
Vicki was wonderful to chat with about what would work best and what colors she had on hand. The shipping was quick :) She has some really amazing colors to choose from.
The shawl is created in a slight crescent shape. Pretty lacy design with an easier row repeat. Lovely border at the bottom to add some "class" to the finished shawl.
Here are a couple of photos from the testers projects. Aren't they pretty! You can create the shawl in a solid color, self striping yarn or gradient colors.
