Scarf Challenge 16

Crochet Scarf Challenge - Scarf 16. This scarf was created with worsted weight yarn but can be crocheted with any weight or type of yarn. A great unisex pattern. Easy row repeat with a fun texture. The width & length of the scarf will change with the different weights of yarn. Use as many colors as you have on hand. The scarf is worked in long rows.

 

MATERIALS

  • Red Heart Comfort (100% Acrylic, 867 yards / 792 meters, 16 ounces / 454 grams) 3 Colors

  • Other Yarn Options: Red Heart Super Saver, Red Heart with Love, Bernat Premium, Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn, Caron Simply Soft, Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran, Stylecraft Special Aran.


HOOKS & SUPPLIES

  • Hook US H8 / 5.00 mm

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

  • Measuring Tape

  • Stitch Marker (Optional)

SIZES

  • One Size: 58” x 7”


PATTERN KEY (US Terms)

  • altch3 = alternate chain 3

  • ch = chain

  • fsc = foundation single crochet

  • sc = single crochet

  • sps = spaces

  • st = stitch

  • sts = stitches

  • tr = treble crochet


SPECIAL STITCHES & TECHNIQUES

Without chaining, work a single crochet into the first stitch. Insert the hook into the left-most leg of the stitch you just made (or the right-most leg for left-handed crocheters), YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops. You’ve just put another single crochet into the left-most leg of the previous stitch. Put one more single crochet into the left-most (right-most) leg of the single crochet, for a total of 3 single crochets, before continuing with your treble crochets.

NOTES

  • * * - Repeat instructions between the asterisks as many times as instructed.

  • Turn at the end of each row.

  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a st.

  • The altch3 is the first tr in the row.

 

INSTRUCTIONS


COLOR A

Row 1: fsc 223 (or any multiple of 10 + 3)

Optional Row 1: ch 224 (or any multiple of 10 + 4), sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across. (223 sts)



Row 2: ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, * skip 4 sts, FAN in the next st, skip 4 sts, sc in the next st * across, sc in the last st.


COLOR B

Row 3: ch 1, sc in the first st and each st across. (179 sts)


COLOR C

Row 4: altch3, 4 tr in the next st, skip 3 sts, sc in the next st, skip 3 sts, * FAN in the next st, skip 3 sts, sc in the next st, skip 3 sts * across until 2 sts remain, 4 tr in the next st, tr in the last st.


COLOR B

Row 5: ch 1, sc in the first st and each st across. (177 sts)


COLOR A

Row 6: ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, skip 3 sts, FAN in the next st, skip 3 sts, * sc in the next st, skip 3 sts, FAN in the next st, skip 3 sts * across until 2 sts remain, sc in the next 2 sts.


Repeat Rows 3 - 6 until desired width.


Last Row (same color as previous Row): ch 1, sc in the first st and each st across.


FINISHING

Fasten off and weave ends or add fringe.
