Scarf Challenge 20

Bernat Premium is one of my favorite yarns! It's so soft and fun to work with.

I have no idea why I purchased the black flecked color though..... black is so hard to crochet, hard to see and hard to see stitch definition. But it makes a great color for a donation scarf :) There is a sample of the pattern at the end in red. Much easier to see.


 

MATERIALS

  • Bernat Premium (100% Acrylic, 360 yards / 329 meters, 7 oz / 198 g) 1 skein

  • Other Yarn Options: Caron One Pound, Red Heart With Love, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, Lion Brand Heartland, Red Heart Roll with It, Red Heart Super Saver, Caron Big Cakes, most #4 weight yarns.

HOOKS & SUPPLIES

  • Hook US H8 / 5.00 mm

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

  • Measuring Tape

  • Stitch Marker (Optional)

GAUGE

  • 14 dc stitches = 4”, first 7 rows = 4”

SIZES

  • 7.25” x 68”

PATTERN KEY (US Terms)

  • altch2 = alternate chain 2

  • ch = chain

  • dc = double crochet

  • fsc = foundation single crochet

  • hdc = half double crochet

  • sc = single crochet

  • dc2tog over 5: YO, insert hook in st , pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), YO, pull through 2 loops, skip 3 sts, YO, hook insert in next st, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), YO, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook), YO, pull through all 3 loops.

  • * * - Repeat instructions between the asterisks.

  • Turn at the end of each row.

  • Chain spaces do not count as stitches.

  • The altch2 is the first double crochet in the row.

  • The chain 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.

 

INSTRUCTIONS


Row 1: fsc 27 (or any multiple of 8 + 3)

Optional Row 1: ch 28 (or any multiple of 8 + 4), sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across. (27 sts)


Row 2: altch2, dc in each st across.


Row 3: altch2, dc in the next 2 sts, * ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in the next st * across until 2 sts remain, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 4: altch2, dc in the next 2 sts, * dc in the next ch sp, dc in the next st * across until 2 sts remain, dc in the last 2 sts.


Row 5: altch2, dc in the next st and each st across.


Row 6: altch2, dc in the next 2 sts, * ch 2, dc2tog over 5, ch 2, dc in the next 3 sts * across.


Row 7: altch2, dc in the next 2 sts, * (dc, ch 3, dc) in the next st, dc in the next 3 sts * across.


Row 8: altch2, dc in the next 3 sts, 3 dc in the next ch sp * dc in the next 5 sts, 3 dc in the next ch sp * across, dc in the last 4 sts.


Row 9: ch 1, sc in each st across.


Infinity scarf: Repeat Rows 2 - 9 until desired length, ending on Row 8. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold in ½ with short ends together, sew ends together. Weave in ends.


Scarf: Repeat Rows 2 - 9 until desired length, ending on Row 5.


Fasten off, weave in ends.
