Scarf Challenge 21

I had some Red Heart Comfort left over from another project. Scarves are always a good way to use up that left over yarn, and the scarves are easy to donate. This isn't my favorite yarn, it's a bit rough. It is nice to work with though, no splitting. If you are looking for a more affordable yarn for projects you donate, this is a good option.

MATERIALS

  • Red Heart Comfort (100% Acrylic, 867 yards / 792 meters, 16 ounces / 454 grams) 300-400 yds

  • Other Yarn Options: Red Heart Super Saver, Red Heart with Love, Bernat Premium, Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn, Caron Simply Soft, Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran, Stylecraft Special Aran.

HOOKS & SUPPLIES

  • Hook US H8 / 5.00 mm

  • Scissors

  • Yarn Needle

  • Measuring Tape

  • Stitch Marker (Optional)

GAUGE

  • 13 dc stitches = 4”, first 7 rows = 4”

SIZES

  • 7.5” x 68”

PATTERN KEY (US Terms)

  • altch2 = alternate chain 2

  • ch = chain

  • dc = double crochet

  • fsc = foundation single crochet

  • hdc = half double crochet

  • sc = single crochet

  • slst = slip stitch

  • sp(s) = space(s)

  • st(s) = stitch(es)

  • Cluster V-Stitch: YO, insert hook in the indicated stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through two loops, YO, insert hook through stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through remaining 3 loops (This is the first half of your cluster stitch), chain 3, YO, insert hook through the same stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through two loops, YO, insert hook through stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through remaining 3 loops.

  • Cluster: 3 dc in the same ch sp.

 

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

  • Easy

NOTES

  • * * - Repeat instructions between the asterisks.

  • Turn at the end of each row.

  • Ch spaces do not count as stitches.

  • The altch2 is the first st in the row.

  • The chain 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.

 

INSTRUCTIONS


Row 1: fsc 25 (or any multiple of 4 + 1)

Optional Row 1: ch 26 (or any multiple of 4 + 2), sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across. (25 sts)


Row 2: altch2, dc in the next 3 sts, * ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in the next 3 sts * across, dc in the last st.


Row 3: altch2, skip 1 st, Cluster V-ST in the next st, * skip 2 sts, Cluster V-ST in the next st * across, skip 1 st, dc in the last st.


Row 4: altch2, skip 1 st, Cluster in the next ch sp, * ch 1, skip 2 sts, Cluster in the next ch sp * across, skip 1 st, dc in the last st.


Row 5: ch 1, sc in the first 4 sts, * sc in the next ch sp, sc in the next 3 sts * across, sc in the last st.


Repeat rows 2 - 5 until desired length.


Fasten off, weave in ends.
